Surface pattern designer, illustrator and creative head of moDeern Design Studio. As a true Nordic Deern (Deern = North German word for woman/girl) I love minimalistic Scandinavian designs. But at the same time also floral, playful and folkloric elements from all over the world.
Together with my little family I live and work in the most beautiful city in the world – Hamburg.
You can read a few insights into my working process on this page.
Step 1: Before I start with a design, I usually go on an intensive journey for trends, inspiration and new color worlds – always based on the ideas and wishes of my customers. This is followed by the creation of mood boards and first scibbles. A very important step to find the right direction together.
Step 2: After the first round of coordination, it’s off to the drawing table. I often draw my illustrations digitally on the iPad, but also classically with ink on paper. I love to combine digital and analog methods of creating and I like to experiment with new techniques, shapes and colors.
Step 3: Then the drawings will be completed on the computer, patterns will be repeated and colors will be defined. For patterns, I mainly work in vector format. Therefore, changes in color and scaling are no problem.
Step 4: After final adjustments and possible corrections, the final data will be created – depending on the requirements and the production process.
Step 5: I want to develop and grow constantly. That’s why I send a small survey to my customers at the end and I’m happy about feedback.
